Last (2024) summer and fall, Dad and Mom helped tremendously by building a shop on the property. Well, we didn’t actually build it. A small crew of three drove it over in pieces and put it up in just a few hours. Very impressive! Dad, Mom and I painted the shop after the workers were finished.
Soon thereafter I began enhancing the shop, preparing it for dual purpose business and basic storage. We opted for a higher barn roof so we could add a loft. I enjoyed building the loft myself, as you can see from this silly photo.
Next I built some workbenches. I originally thought to make three, but two is enough for starters. I really enjoyed designing and building these.
I built a giant rolling shelf to store tools and equipment on.
My brother-in-law and his dad added electrical while Dad and I mostly dug trenches. My niece wanted to help, so she tidied up the electrical scraps her dad and papa left behind so they could focus on finishing the job.
The biggest project of all perhaps was the insulation. I did it all in several sessions over a couple weeks.
Dad gave me some metal shelves that he used to have in his van. Of course I had to add rolling carts to the bottom of them. Everything MUST be on wheels!
Built a staircase to the loft.
After all that, Dad and I rigged up the motors and equipment necessary to get the sharpening equipment operational. Dad also helped install some great lighting. Now I’m ready to sharpen and repair all your equipment! I can’t wait to provide you the best service I possibly can! I really enjoyed building all my own shelving and working environment. While it’s still a bit rough-looking (mainly because the insulation is still exposed), as time and supplies become available I’ll spiff it up to possibly an absurd degree. Here’s a photo of me in the shop in its 100% working state. As soon as I’m able to add some lining to the walls I’ll take another photo to share. I’m very proud of what my family and myself were able to achieve last fall! Suddenly it’s 2025, and it’s time to get sharpening!
